Colombia will not put a man-marker on Argentina star Lionel Messi in Wednesday's Copa America encounter, after coach Hernan Dario Gomez affirmed such a tactic would only weaken his side's chances of taking three points away from the hosts.

The Valenciennes player, 25, replaces Deportes Tolima's Gustavo Bolivar in the middle of the pitch in a team otherwise identical to that which struggled past Costa Rica 1-0 on Saturday. The trainer hopes that Sanchez can help balance a team with great strength in the midfield, but that lacks creativity in the final third.

Speaking in the conference where his team was confirmed, 'Bolillo' also stated that he had no intention to assign a man-marker on Lionel Messi, as such a decision made no sense.

"We would waste a lot of effort in trying to stop him and it would take us away from what we do best," explained Gomez, who in 1987 was part of the Colombian team that assigned a marker to Argentine legend Diego Maradona.
